Cleveland-Cliffs, Cleveland Works, has an immediate opportunity for a Lead Maintenance Engineer, High Energy, in our Maintenance, Engineering & Utilities (MEU) department.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Promote the principles and practices of efficient end use energy technologies to lighting, utility, process, and power systems.
  • Develop, implement, and manage programs/strategies, energy accounting systems and management procedures to reduce energy costs at the Cleveland Works.
  • Lead the Continuous Improvement program for the Cleveland MEU Division.
  • Be the focal point and provide leadership for all activities pertaining to energy management at the Cleveland Works, including the development of energy use and the energy policy.
  • Central responsibility for plant-wide utilities, systems, and contracts, plant energy conservation efforts, plant energy and utility usage management, plant & departmental utility measurement.
  • Manage and implement fuel & utility contracts – natural gas, electricity, city water, industrial gases (oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen).
  • Daily and monthly natural gas forecasting and balancing as per FERC order 636.
  • End of month fuel and utility distributions.
  • Other duties as assigned.   

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3 years leadership experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial environment, or the military.
  • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point and exposure to databases.
  • Prior experience prioritizing and multi-tasking multiple projects, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and strong problem-solving/negotiating skills.
  • Availability to work extended hours as needed, including weekends and holidays, in a multi-level organization that operates 24/7.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years leadership experience in heavy manufacturing/industrial environment or the military.
  • Prior experience in a steel making operation or unionized environment.
